[net.tv] UFO trivia

Joe Barone ({allegra, decvax!brunix, ccieng5}!rayssd!m1b) asks a
number of UFO questions, so I dug out my copy of the episode guide to
pass on the following. A lot more people must have watched this
show than I realized.

>>	Since there has been a lot of discussion on the British program,

The episode guide is in Starlog 5, from back in 1977, but I think you can
still order it as a back issue. The episode guide may even have been
reprinted in one of their books of episode guides but I don't know for sure.
The article with it isn't too accurate in detail as it gives 1972 instead of
1969 for when the show was made. Probably 1972 was the year CBS showed it
for a while. I only saw it around 1976 in syndication. I would doubt that
any of it is available on video tape, other than from people who taped
it themselves from local stations. I didn't have my VCR yet when it was
last on here or I would have gotten it for myself.

>>	1. What was the name of the commander of Moon Base? What was his
>> former profession?
The regular commander of Moon Base was Lt. Gay Ellis, so I'm not sure who
you are asking about. Lt. Mark Bradley was the lead interceptor pilot in
several episodes. Occationally an episode would take place on Moon Base
and a visiting higher ranking officer would take charge.

>>	2. What was the name of the scientist-type who explained things
>> to Straker?
I'm not certain about this one, the only continuing character that comes
close to this description would be Dr. Jackson.

>>	3. What was the name of the commander of one of the subs?
Peter Karlin, his sister was killed in one of the first proven UFO
attacks that was responsible for the establishment of SHADO.

>>	4. What does SHADO stand for? ( I don't think this one has been
>> answered yet.)
It's been answered a couple of times - Supreme Headquarters, Alien
Defense Organization (a prime example of creating an acronym and
choosing words to fit it afterwards)

>>	5. In what year do these events occur?
1981-1984, SHADO was established by the U.N. around 1971 but took 10 years
to become fully operational.
