[net.tv] SNL, V, HSB

moriarty@fluke.UUCP (The Napoleon of Crime) (11/13/84)

1) I don't know if any of you have been watching this lately, but the
writing over the last two episodes has been superb. It may very well match
the first season -- remember, the beauty of the first season was that the
first half hour was extremely funny, and it went downhill from there. My
only major complaint has been the news, whichs varies with the guest host --
George Carlin, last week, was extremely funny, but they didn't give him much
time ("Teddy Kennedy said last week that he had about as much chance of
running for president in '88 as of driving his car off a bridge." -- yah,
chancey, but so was General ... is still dead when it first came out)...
they seem to be less afraid to take a chance. I've found myself really
rolling on at least three or four occasions on the last few shows -- the
Baby Fae/Brian De Palma clip was a scream ("Doctor! The normal baboon heart
is still in the lab!" "That means that they took... the CRIMINAL baboon
heart...."). And Jim Belushi showed he CAN be funny, occasionally, in the
high school chess coach ("AWWWW! Why don't you just GIVE him your king!!!").
Anyway, check it out.

2) Any recommendations I ever gave Airwolf were made by an unsteady mind.
However, seen V lately? Sure, it's trash, but it is well photographed trash
with the type of lines I assume must draw people back to DALLAS and DYNASTY
each week ("No, Dad, you've always cared about things that started with B.
Bucks, Business, Billions. Kyle starts with a K, remember?"). Perhaps this
will be my downfall (Christ, now I'M doing it!).

3) Well, if you're not watching Hill Street, why the heck NOT? Cripes,
even Joyce has become a real person, after 5 years. She not only used to be
a totally unsympathetic character (and not only during HSB's "down" season
last year), but she had some of the worst lines I've ever heard on that
show. Remember what she told Frank after breaking off their affair during
the first season? (In totally serious tones) "Some men would kill for what
you've had." Well, the truth always hurts... Anyway, the show is clicking
like it hasn't a problem in the world, and if they can keep this up for
another ten years, I'll be happy.

Well, back to work....

                                "Oh, intercourse the penguin!"
