For those of us engrossed in the repeat of "The Thorn Birds", the following reminder of Cardinal d'Bricasar's previous existence may prove interesting. This is an MGM/UA Entertainment Company synopsis of a 1964 two-part episode entitled, "Tiger, Tiger", from the "Young Dr. Kildare" series. PART I: Beautiful young Pat Holmes, "the best girl surfer on the coast," exudes good health and a zest for her exciting outdoor life until she strangely blacks out while riding a wave on her board. Nearly drowned, she is admitted to Blair Hospital where Drs. Kildare and Gillespie discover she is suffering from epilepsy. Her parents are horrified, but Pat responds with rare courage. Dr. Kildare, attracted by her spirit as well as her beauty, continues to see Pat after she is discharged from the hospital. Realizing he is falling in love, he fears the consequences of her great love for the surf and its meaning for her. PART II: When Dr. Kildare falls in love with spirited Pat Holmes, nymph-like girl surfer who has developed epilepsy, he shoulders the responsibility of keeping her off her board and the water. He is reassured when Carol Montgomery, a seemingly hopeless young alcoholic, and Pat vow to help each other adjust to their new lives - no bottles for Carol and no waves for Pat. But, though she displays tremendous courage in her fight against the disease, Pat is irresistibly drawn back to the surfing beaches and Dr. Gillespie warns that her first love, for the sea, may probe unconquerable. Now, can you remember who played the "nymph-like girl surfer"? Berringer's own Yvette Mimieux! Pamela McGarvey UCLA Comprehensive Epilepsy Program
