(Try our new and improved Line-o-bugs!) Well, I got sucked into watching MIAMI VICE last night because the commercials used Phil Collins as background music. AND AM I GLAD I DID ! It's a show about a pair of cops (one from NYC and one from Miami) who end up working with each other to nail a slime-ball South-American drug kingpin that leaves bodies wherever his white line leads. Even though it dealt with a really scuzzy subject (drug-smuggling) the show was fast, well edited, with stunning cinematography (if that applies to non-theater productions). If anyone has ever seen THIEF, the movie with James Caan, you probably have a good idea how the mixture of great visuals and tight music (by Tangerine Dream) can make a film. MIAMI VICE falls into this category. It's too bad it didn't come out in the theaters first. A lot of work went into the premier episode and made one hell of a good impression! Let's hope that it can stay as good as a series. -- Others have tried and failed. Getting the air-sickness bags prepped for the new season... Gary (hplabs, ios, allegra)oliveb!olivee!gnome

Considering the ethnic composition of the city of Miami, this show should have been called "Cuba Vice".

Was anyone else surprised when Lt. Rodriguez (Gregory Sierra) was killed on the October 19 show? Apparently, the producers really won't stay to the old traditional tv formula. This show continues to impress me with its visual imagery and timely use of rock music. I'd highly recommend it to all. As a friend commented, "It's not the A-Team." John Stasko ..decvax!brunix!jts

With no question this is my favorite show. We moved our lab recently and I had a choice of either missing Vice on Friday or the Doctor (don't ask what doctor!) on Saturday. I worked Saturday. Don Johnson and Philip Thomas are much easier on the eyes anytime. BTW, the alligator on the show is named Elvis; Don Johnson once played Elvis Presley in a TV movie (I think Bonnie Bedelia played Pricilla). I think NBC should move MV to Saturday to give it a chance. It's getting killed by Falcon Crest, and having Hunter as a lead is not helping much. Diane Wilkerson P. S.: Don't send mail to me here. I'm just visiting since my account was moved and I don't have access to the net anymore. P. P. S.: Anyone know where I can get a poster of Don and Philip? Right now I have a picture from the cover of the local TV guide hanging on my office wall.

The February 1 episode promises to be interesting. The producers have taken the practice of integrating current music to its ultimate conclusion--they have built an entire episode around a song. The song is "Smuggler's Blues" by Glenn Frey (formerly of the Eagles). And--Glenn Frey has a role (it sounds like a pretty major role) as the pilot of the plane being used to smuggle the contraband (I assume drugs from South America).

Ok, Smuggler's blues hit the air last Friday. Without being wordy and boring, I have to say - GET BACK THE OLD DIRECTOR! Glaser (sp), former Starsky, directed this episode. If you saw it, you would know why I think the directing stank. There seems to have been a scene missing where the hotel room in Colombia got trashed and the pilot left for the plane. (One scene it's ok, the next [when Tubbs returns] scene, its been wrecked beyond compare.) Also, how could the good guys expect to catch a cop-gone-bad using Trudy (posing as Tubbs' wife) as bait if the bad-guy works around them all the time? (He turns out to be in HOMICIDE) There were a lot of holes in the editing and story that only appeared with this episode. Let's not see it happen again. Too tired to type, Gary (hplabs,allegra,ihnp4)oliveb!olivee!gnome
