[net.tv] An old St. Elsewhere review, and other assorted ravings...

moriarty@fluke.UUCP (Jeff Meyer) (02/12/85)

Thanks to sweeps month, there has been an overload of
"watchable" TV on, and I've been archiving shows on my little Betamax
for the sparse months ahead. Didn't see the St. Elsewhere of several
weeks ago (Myra White has her baby, Cathy Martin returns, etc.) until
last night, but that was one of those shows I felt compelled to write
about. Luther's speech during Auchlander's portrait's unveiling
reminds you of why this show is reknowned for both acting and
writing... that was the type of characterization you see so rarely on
television these days. Question: any speculations on who sent Myra
White's kid the tiny ski mask? I guess the logical suspects would be
Cathy Martin or Nurse Daniels (out on bail, off screen, perhaps?).
After the dream sequence of several months ago, one almost would think
demonic forces might be involved...

Another extremely well-done show (at least for two episodes)
has been "Sara", running right before St. E. It has been compared
favorably to Mary Tyler Moore, and I must admit that it does strike the
same kind of tone -- eccentric characters with very funny scripts and
good acting. Check it out.

Last and Least, "Codename: Foxfire" cannot even be saved by the
acting skills of Joanna Cassidy, which is a pity. Maybe if they found
a few good writers, this could be done without leaving a bad taste in
one's mouth...

				"Honey, this is GREAT coffee."
