The updated rules with regard to the net.chess club ladder are as follows:
1)You can challenge anyone you chose in the standings.
2)You must except a challenge from the person immediately below you in the
standings. You also must except a challenge from anybody if you presently
have no games in progress. Failure to do this results in forfeit. You may
decline a challenge if the circumstances are otherwise.
3)If you lose a game you will drop a certain number of positions on the ladder
depending on your opponents relative position to you in the standings. For
instance if you lose to someone above you, you will lose one place, If you
lose to someone 10 spots below you, you will lose four places. I have
developed a table to calculate the result.
4)If you win a game you will take over the place of your opponent in the
standings unless hes below you in which case there will be no change.
5)If you draw a game there will be no change to your position on the ladder.
6)All games started must be completed irregardless of changes in the standings
7)Please let me know for my record keeping whenever a new match is started.
This will also protect you in case there is a denial that a match ever took
place. Also let me know when the match is completed and the results.
8)The person higher in the standings will have choice of color with one
exception. If the person immediately below you has challenged you(which is
a mandatory acceptance) and the game has ended in a draw, he can immediately
rechallenge you which you must also accept and he'll have choice of color.
But this is only true if he still is immediately below you in the standings.
Choice of color will continue alternating as long as the games end in draws.
Remember though to keep me informed of all outcomes and new games.
9)If for some reason(ie vacation, etc) you cant play for a period of time,
let me and your present opponents know so you dont lose your position by
forfeit. Your position for the time being will be jumped over with regard
to challenges.
10)Any problems with contacting people or lengthy time intervals between
responses in your game, etc., let me know and I'll decide if a forfeit
is in order.
11)Any questions or comments are appreciated. I'll post a revision of these
rules at a later date if necessary.
12)Information kept on the ladder will be rating(formula developed by me),
record(win,loss,draws),games in progress, mailing address.
13)Information kept with regard to games completed will be opening, number
of moves, result, date completed.
