Last night, Saturday Night Live ran their own film festival. I have not been overly impressed with SNL this season, though I think they have some very talented people and have done some really inspired bits (which have been interspersed with slow, one-joke, too-long bits). But last night's show was really good. Billy Crystal "hosted" and Siskel and Ebert were guests (they did reviews of the SNL films halfway through and at the end, really classy part of the show). Some of the films shown were: the male synchronized swimmers in training; video junkie; beware of hitchhiking (lest you go fender first over a cliff); c-i-l-l my landlord (a la Jack Henry Abbott and Norman Mailer); aging black baseball players; "I'm the Needleman" rock video/dating service tape; The Lifestyles of the Relatives of the Rich and Famous (the Nelson Hepburn episode); and last, and unreviewed by S & E, Eddie Murphy's foray into the world of the white (tight-ass walk and all - "I'm going to buy this newspaper"). An excellent show, all in all. ck.
