[net.tv] old cartoons - Winky Dink et al

schneider@vlnvax.DEC (03/11/85)

I remember Winky Dink too. Yes my mother ordered the "Magic" markers for
me and everything, and I'd do things to help Winky Dink like draw a bridge to
help him escape etc. It strikes me that the "interactiveness" of this
children's cartoon was far ahead of its time in many respects. There is still
nothing like it though I keep reading about such projects.

The theme song went something like this:

	Winky Dink and me
	Winky Dink and you
	We can have fun-
	Togeth-er.

Later I read about someone trying to remember an old space cartoon. When I
was quite young, the first cartoons to come on on a Saturday morning were
"Colonel Bleep" at 6:30AM and "Dodo, the Kid from Outerspace" at 7:00.

What I remember about "Colonel Bleep" is that he was a little guy with a
round head and a glass space helmet and a ray-gun. He hung around with
a cave man in a leopard-skin toga who carried a club. I even remember an
episode where they were on a planet which did everything backwards: triangular
wheels, eating banana and orange peels and throwing away the fruit, etc.
Our heroes set them right.

"Dodo seems to be a sort of Pinocchio-looking guy who was a do-gooder who
was always beset upon by evil guys. His bumbling, conniving (but generally
good) comrade was Professor Fingers who had magic pockets. These pockets
could fit ANYTHING in them and not even look it. Theme song:

	Dodo, the kid from outerspace
	Dodo, can go most anyplace
	with bells on his heels,
	Antennas on his ears,
	He's a high-flying pixie.
	?????????????????
	Dodo, the kid from outerspace.

	DODO!

OH YUKKKK!!!! I watched a few of these when I was young. A guilty
pleasure I suppose. Does anyone remember a show that featured
Pinocchio and his friend a horse? These cartoons were done via the
stop-motion animation effects Art Clokey is famed for. No I am not
thinking of Gumby. They were set in the Old West as I recall.
