[Hey, Ralphy-boy! Hope the line-eater likes this one!] Does anyone remember an old, old show called Life of Reilly(sp?)? I happened to catch it last night (5:30am) and it was pretty good. I enjoyed it in the same way I like most of the old sitcoms. It had the standard family with funny neighbor, etc. But it starred Jackie Gleason and he was sooo thin! I mean you would say thin! It must've been made very early. Anyone know when? Well, just wanted to know if anyone else has ever seen it and what they thought of it. -- When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. Michael S. Riley during the 49-50 season, then William Bendix took over and the show became much more popular. I remember Bendix's favorite line was "What a revoltin' development this is" I don't know if Gleason used this phrase or not. This was one of the earliest TV sitcoms. -------------------------------- Alan Filipski, UNIX group, Motorola Microsystems, Tempe, AZ U.S.A {allegra|ihnp4}!sftig!mot!al OR {seismo|ihnp4}!ut-sally!oakhill!mot!al -------------------------------- Holy mackerel, Andy, here comes Sapphire and her mama !

I remember it as "Life of Riley" and it starred William Bendix as a riveter in an airplane factory.

Weiss BITNET: weiss@psuvaxg.bitnet As I recall (I used to watch the show in my younger days), "Life of Reilly" starred William Bendix. The show was on around 1958-1959 or so. William Bendix did look a little like Jackie Gleason. Can anyone verify this??? -- Frank Dibbell (408-746-6493) {whatever}!amdahl!canopus [R.A. 6h 22m 30s Dec. -52d 36m] [Generic disclaimer.....]

All the episodes I have seen stared Jackie Gleason. They are on after midnight on weekdays in this area. Perhaps the staring role changed during the life of the series? Werner B.

Actually, no one is right yet. William Bendix played Reilly all but the first year. The character of Reilly the first year was billed as Jack Gleason. Now, he did put on a few pounds and added a couple letters later in his career, but the fact remains that Jackie Gleason was never listed in the credits as Reilly.

I believe that Bendix was the original Reilly and Jackie Gleason took over the role in mid-stream. JG was pretty thin back then--a couple hundred pounds ago. :-) melanie ihnp4!mhuxt!techpub P.S.
