I've heard rumors that there are some 70 unreleased episodes of The Honeymooners that are supposed to be released? Anybody know anything about them? When and where etc. I've also heard a little bit about a Honeymooners fan club; "The Honeymooners Preservation Society" or some such thing. I would appreciate e-mail from anyone who knows anything about either or both. Thanks. William D. ihnp4!drutx!wed

Honeymooners: I think the latest number is something like 66. These are the skits from the old Jackie Gleason Show from the early '50s. These were done BEFORE the Honeymooners show was on the air. Actually, the Honeymooners was only on the air for 1 1/2 years. So, all the shows out in sindication now are all that were ever made. On to the new ones. These are reportedly Jackie Gleasons PRIVATE copies of the live show that he had in his contract to be filmed for him (Talk about forthsite!). He (supposedly) has been waiting around for years until the right time ($$$ wise) to sell them to sindication. He just finished filming a special that will be aired on NBC on May 13 or 14. Now, this is a little confusing to me. When Ralph (sic Jackie) first announced his deal, he said a special would be aired on Showtime (cable pay channel) in the beginning of the summer to introduce the new shows. The the new shows would be on Showtime first and not be on commercial TV until mid-1986. I don't know if this is the same special or if the deal with Showtime is still 'on'. Anyone else ? Mark

The NBC special will show only bits and pieces of the "new" shows. Showtime will show the complete set starting in the fall of 1985. Viacom (the copmany that syndicates many shows) will distribute the shows to commercial stations in the fall of 1986. This week's TIME has an article on Jackie and the Honeymooners.
