[net.tv] Honeymooners/Flintstones

edward@ukma.UUCP (Edward C. Bennett) (05/16/85)

After watching the Honeymooners reunion last Monday night, I noticed some
parallels between them and the Flintstones. Consider these...

Both shows revolve around two couples, all best friends.

In both shows, the husbands belong to a fraternal lodge.

The lead character of both shows is a fat, loud, obnoxious
who thinks he runs his house.

Both lead wives are the real bosses and are tougher than
	their spouses.

There're probably more, but this is a good start. Has anyone else noticed
these similarities??

	"Looks like a penguin."

The similarities between the Honeymooners and the Flintstones is a fact that
has been explored in the past, although I'm not sure how widely this is
known. I remember reading about it in a book that I read once on old TV shows.
Sorry that I can't remember more about it but I think that the most essential
similarities were covered in the posting. Maybe that's why the Flintstones
is so good!

Sorry, Edward, but, quoting from a book called Total Television by Alex McNeil:
"...Set in the Stone Age, the Flintstones was little more than an animated
version of the Honeymooners--the voices of the characters were similar to those
of the Honeymooners, and the Flintstones' cave even resembled the Kramdens'
apartment."

This is far from a new concept.

"I'm not."

Are you for real ?? It took you this long to realize that there are
similarities between the Honeymooners and the Flintstones ! The Honeymooners
was on of the most copied shows, I can think of two cartoon shorts that
are blatent rip-offs, and then there is the Flintstones.

Sorry, I got carried away

Yes I'm for real. I'd never seen the Honeymooners before.
(You can call me sheltered, I prefer to call it 'good taste'.)

I assume you are referring to the Warner Brothers' "Honeymousers" cartoons.

My favorite rip-off of the Honeymooners, however, was the Saturday Night
Live version with the Bees (remember them). ("Ralph, you're gonna have a
little drone.")
