From this week's issue of TV Guide: It appears that HILL STREET BLUES will be adding yet another regular character, to be played by Dennis Franz, who played the corrupt narcotics cop Sal Benedetto a couple of seasons ago. However, they mention that to cut costs, guest stars and extras will be cut back on. Also, several regular cast memebers will also be eliminated. Hope we still get to see Mrs. Renko (who is, in fact, Mrs. Haid) and Belker's girlfriend Robin on occasion. The interesting part: they mention that while no names have been brought up, the following are NOT on the "endangered list": Captain Furillo, Joyce Davenport, Fay Furillo, Sergeant Jablonski, Detectives Belker and Washington, Officers Hill and Renko. Which brings up the matter of: who goes? Well, first, for those who are staying, it seems that the best characters are being kept (though Fay could be dropped without any great loss). I'm very glad that Jablonski is being kept; he's definately the best new addition they've had in years. All the rest do consistently good work, also. Now, as to who goes: LaRue's name seems conspicously absent from the list, and with the shenanigans he's pulled in the last few years, it seems safe to see him as a "dispensable" character. Also, I notice Henry is not mentioned; perhaps the last episode of the season (airing tomorrow night (the 16th)) will have him buy the farm. As to others: James B. Sikking does a lot of film work, and might decide that he could do without Lt. Howard Hunter from now on. I would like them to keep Lucy Bates if at all possible, though her sergeant's rank would be a pretty good incentive to move to another precinct. Coffey works best with Bates, so if she goes, I hope he follows. Ray Caitono (sp?) is a mystery to me; that could go either way. The two newcomers, Patsy and Harry, are pretty good, but if I had a choice, I'd prefer Patsy stick around. Leo, like LaRue, is history; a sure bet for the fast lane out. What about it, folks? What do you think? Who will (should) go or stay? "I can give you my word, but I know what it's worth and you don't." -Nero Wolfe, _Over_My_Dead_Body_ Moriarty, aka Jeff Meyer John Fluke Mfg. Since of last night there were three new captian openings one by death, one by retirement and one arrested. I beleive that he was one of the top 3 to become captian and in the comming episodes he will leave, which is good because I hate his crying about becoming a captain. kcm Keith C MacKinnon

Personally I could live without Patsy. I think she is the poorest excuse for a detective I have seen in a long time. A pleasure to look at, but she is no Joyce Davenport. Harry seems to have worked himself in quite well. He's OK. Leo has all but been written out of the series. In the final episode he had a 2 second shot of disbelief...something regarding Sgt McBear. He no longer even appears in the opening titles. That's fine with this avid viewer. ANOTHER new character? Who needs it? I say bring back the OLD Jesus Martinez. He was great! This lawyer is awful. If it's the same actor who played that s--t Benedetto, he will have a lot of proving to do! Of course, next season is the magic 7th, I believe. Standard TV show contracts are for 7 years. If it is the 7th, there is a good chance that we will lose several characters. Just my thoughts... --Evan Marcus -- {ucbvax|decvax}!vax135!petsd!pedsgd!pedsga!evan ...!petfe!evan "We're all different." "I'm not."

There were a few interesting changes givin in the last show that gives the producers an out for several characters: 1) Henry can now "buy the farm" since he has inherited alot of money. He doesn't need to be a cop any more. They can also take it all away from him before the end of the first show next season. 2) Ray is moving up quickly to a captain position and may soon be in charge of another precinct. I'm sure there are more that you all can figure out. - Andy Bindman

> From this week's issue of TV Guide: It appears that HILL STREET > BLUES will be adding yet another regular character, to be played > by Dennis Franz, who played the corrupt narcotics cop Sal > Benedetto a couple of seasons ago. Bad choice. In my opinion the man was an irratent.(sp). HSB can do without him... > Now, as to who goes: LaRue's name seems conspicously absent > from the list, and with the shenanigans he's pulled in the last few > years, it seems safe to see him as a "dispensable" character. Also, I Your right. He has a good heart but his brains are pudding. He should be gone, but after some heroic deed. > notice Henry is not mentioned; perhaps the last episode of the > season (airing tomorrow night (the 16th)) will have him buy the farm. Henry has over the years turned sour. What with all the hostages, his ex attacked, his involvement with ex mrs Furillo and now Gina (why did she go she was a nice addition to the story line). Henry, I see it, does himself in. > As to others: James B. Sikking does a lot of film work, and > might decide that he could do without Lt. Howard Hunter from now on. I like Howard. His role is essential. They can't drop SWAT operations so why drop him only to replace him. Besides who else will purchase broken down mobile homes? (trivia--what was the mobile home's name?). > I would like them to keep Lucy Bates if at all possible, though She is the only woman uniform left. She deserved a promotion but it leaves a void of uniformed women patrol officers. Bad planning and it needs to be resoloved. > Coffey works best with Bates, so if she goes, I hope he follows. Joe Coffey should be on the hit list. Totally useless characture. > Ray Caitono (sp?) is a mystery to me; that could What a crybaby. The show needs a Hispanic for viewpoint and input rightly so but see below.... > The two newcomers, Patsy and Harry, are pretty They should stick. I look at them working with Belker more on under- cover assignments. Patsy with Belker inside and Harry doing backround surviellance(sp). > Leo, like LaRue is history. AMEN. Everyone forgot one person who will start making a very dominate impact on the show. Remember Jose the gang leader. He in the last two seasons has been studing law and ever made an appeareance as some DA's underling. I think with that one Public Defender lady found holding that Jose will work for the Pub Def office and be in the show a lot more. His role is non-abrasive and genuine. Here is your Latin input and the Ray-Howard sibling rivalry, which I for one hate, is resolved. Before I go I want to applaud HSB for having Frank go off the wagon even if for only a week. I felt a bolt of lightning hit when Frank stood up in the AA meeting and said he's been sober for two days. (6 years down the drain) Frank was getting to become tooooooo perfect. HSB remembers people make day to day errors. P.S. Leo should have let his wife stay in Vegas. anything I say may be held against me???go on bob > > "I can give you my word, but I know what it's worth and you don't." > -Nero Wolfe, _Over_My_Dead_Body_ > > Moriarty, aka Jeff Meyer > John Fluke Mfg. This just into HSB Central: (from the 6/1 TV Guide), Harry Garibaldi and Patsy (what kind of name is that for a cop?) Mayo (or that?) will be leaving Hill Street next season! They will be replaced by Ken Franz (sp?) whose purpose is to make life difficult for Frankie. My feeling is that this is not a loss (losing them). She was awful...never convinced me that she was anything at all. The love interest for FF never worked out, and so she was lost. (That one story with the dentist, and then with Daniels was amusing, but little more.) He was a bit of an ass`, though an asset on the whole. I suppose his character may be missed. Will they vanish or be written out? Only time will tell... Evan Marcus -- {ucbvax|decvax}!vax135!petsd!pedsgd!pedsga!evan ...!petfe!evan "We're all different." "I'm not."
