Did you see who was also in attendance? JOHNNY LaRUE!!! Imagine, after years
of being a slime mold, J.D. has taken the first step towards becoming a

I seem to remember that Frank was the person who advised J.D. to join AA. This happened in the first (?) season. I think the explaination is that J.D. is slime, of the worse kind, but he's cured his alcohal problem, which is a boost to everyone Jim Sullivan
