On a late-night report detailing the hijacked TWA flight, the reporter ended the report explaining that everything will come down to the wire Sunday morning, when the hijackers deadline comes up, and they say they will blow up the plane, with the passengers still on it. Grim face, fade to black... And then one of those upbeat, loud "*N* *B* *C* Let's all BE THERE!!" ads. Probably a coincidence, but still, makes the whole thing sound like a spectator sport... "By the way, I payed for the whole trip on Mr. Underhill's American Express card. Want the number?" Moriarty, aka Jeff Meyer John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc. Takes the prize so far for accidental bad taste! A good one occurred locally here in L.A. a few months ago. Remember when that discount store in the Fairfax area literally blew up from an accumulation of organic gas (the entire area is very close to the world-famous LaBrea Tar Pits...) Well, right after a late night news report on the incident, I saw the following sequence: 1) an ad for the other stores in the chain (that hadn't blown up!) 2) an ad for a lamp store explaining how they were "blowing off the roof in an explosion of low prices -- BOOM!") Of course, stories about incidents like movie critics totally panning films, followed immediately by an ad for the film, are very common.... --Lauren--
