*** Lets do it to them before they do it to us *** An article in the local newspaper written by Fred Rothenberg, an AP Television writer tells of some of the cast changes that are going to occurr next season on HSB. The information was released by the new executive producer David Milch. Here are some of the changes and new directions HSB fans can expect starting in September: A veteran recurring character will do something wrong "and stop being a cop" A new character played by Dennis Franz will be an "amoral phenomenon" and replace Rene Enriquez's Lt. Ray Callentana in the precinct house. Callentano will finally become a captain and be reassigned. He won't be a regular but will make occasional appearances this season. At least these four characters will be in EVERY episode: Capt. Frank Furillo, Mick Belker, and the team of Bobby Hill and Andy Renko. The policy of putting every series regular into every episode will come to an end and only those characters actually involved in the story will appear. Dective Harry Garibaldi will be the main character in the first show but then off the show. Pasty Mayo will not be back at all. All of the episodes will not begin with roll call. There will be some first-time directors and writers working on the development of the show. I don't know if I like all of these changes that will be taking place. Some of them such as Ray getting reassigned were expected but others such as not starting with roll call may take some getting used to. I guess we will have to wait and see in September. Marc D. Are HSB's early episodes in syndication yet? If not, anybody know when they will be available? Will

> > Are HSB's early episodes in syndication yet? If not, anybody know when > they will be available? > > Will ========================================================== This past season, (I think it was sometime around Christmas), the premier episode of Hill St. Blues was aired. It introduced the TV audience to all the cast members. (Did you know LaRue originally had the hots for Joyce Davenport?) If you were lucky enough to have a video recorder at the time.... I'd be interested in hearing from old HSB viewers on how the characters have changed over the life of the show. I must admit that I'm rather new to HSB, having been a loyal fan for only two seasons. While I'm on the subject of HSB, is anyone else out there bothered by NBC's insistence on airing three or four new HSB episodes then a couple of repeats, then a couple of new ones, then a couple of old ones...... One more question: I know that Hill St. Blues and St. Elsewhere are related somehow,(for one thing they are both MTM productions). Does anyone know if the changes in writers, producers, etc. at HSB will affect St. Elsewhere? Thanks, Manny

I find the old episodes very annoying. The prime reason it is done is that HSB is a very expensive show (large cast, etc.), and because of that reason they do not make as many episodes. Consequently old shows are used as filler (sort of HSB helper ...). Both St. Elsewhere and HSB are MTM productions, which was formerly headed by Grant Tinker (formerly Mr. Mary Tyler Moore), and now head of NBC. I am not sure of any connections beyond those of the production company and producers.
