It seems to me that with all the hype about seatbelt use, the major networks would at least set a good example on TV. It seems they used to. What happened?? Do they think it takes too much time or looks corny to use seatbelts on TV? -- Ned Robie

Amanda King, on "Scarecrow and Mrs King", always wears her seatbelt. I
think that the folks on "TJ Hooker", and maybe also Cagney and Lacey,
also wear their seatbelts. So, it isn't completely unheard of.
I think there was an attempt to convince the makers of "Mickey
Spillane's Mike Hammer" that Hammer should use a seatbelt, but the
makers felt that it would be out of character (not "macho"). Too bad;
it would be great if a macho hero would wear his seatbelt in order to
convince viewers that it isn't a sign of weakness (just as ten years or
so ago it was common for macho types to cry once in a while, as a sign
of the "new masculinity").
