The first St Elsewhere of the new season was awful. The characters all played two-dimensional projections of themselves, except for Chandler, who exhibited a new facet of his personality which was totally inconsistent with past character development. The plot was threadbare, and seemed to have been thrown together just to tie in the elements of the new season, with none of the craftsmanship of earlier years. Four internists start a barroom brawl. A cartoon yuppie couple dances across the stage solely to act out their stereotypes and introduce the new head of obstetrics. Ehrlich plays non-stop buffoon, with nary a peek of the human being inside. Dr Craig publicly gloats at the misfortune of a colleague. And the prodigal son, Dr Westphal, returns two minutes before the end of the show, just long enough to ask for his job back ... no motivation, no humanity. A few more weeks like this and I'll take St Elsewhere off my "must view" list. And that will be sad. If Hill Street Blues suffers from a similar lobotomy, this may be the year that I live without TV. -=- Andrew Klossner (decvax!tektronix!tekecs!andrew) [UUCP] (tekecs!andrew.tektronix@csnet-relay) [ARPA] PS: Bring back Bay City Blues!

Does anyone know if the last-season reruns of St. Elsewhere were deliberately not shown, or if maybe I couldn't find them because they were locally (St. Louis) pre-empted? I had missed quite a few of their initial showings and intended to watch them during the summer rerun season. However, it seemed that St. E wasn't on most weeks during the summer... One episode in particular I wanted to see, based upon a TV Guide blurb, was one that included an oversexed wife of a patient making a play for Ehrlich. Anyone know if that one was re-run? Will
