[net.tv] Amazing Stories #4

edward@ukecc.UUCP (Edward C. Bennett) (10/28/85)

I just finished watching the 4th "Amazing Stories" episode, "Daddy
Mummy" (or was is "Mummy Daddy"? anyway...) and I can finally say that
they got it right!
The story involves a movie mummy whose wife has just given birth
at a nearby hospital. He hurriedly leaves the set to be at her side.
Along the way to the hospital he has run-ins with a gas station attendant,
two rednecks in a pickup truck, an angry lynch mob and a REAL mummy. The
'punch line' of the whole thing is that while daddy is at the hospital,
the real mummy makes it to the movie set.
The story was original, well developed, swiftly paced with no
obvious holes. It presented some genuinely funny scenes ("I am a good
mummy"). Much better than the magnetic stud (Am I the only one who
laughed at that? Don't answer...oh well) episode.
After three false starts, it looks as if "Amazing Stories"
has finally taken off. Let's just hope that Captain Spielburg can
keep it from crashing. ;-)

"Goodnight M.A."

<bug line>

Yup, they did it right all right. It was a fast, funny, clever episode.
I'd love to know who it was in that mummy suit; he did a fine job, and
will remain forever faceless.

My favorite part was when the kid said "well, he *looks* like a nice mummy...
but we better hang him just to be on the safe side...". Budding young
redneck if ever I saw one.

All in all, a very well-done episode.

I was not as impressed with the latest Hitchcock; the premise and most
of the "surprise" ending was obvious from the TV Guide description. Oh
well, can't win 'em all...
