[net.tv] Massive Net-wide search for the Lyrics to the Theme from BONANZA

moriarty@fluke.UUCP (Jeff Meyer) (12/06/85)

Look, I'm *sorry* to cross-post to so many newsgroups, but I've just GOTTA
find the answer to this! I know that there are lyrics to the theme from
BONANZA -- Norm sang 'em on an episode of "Cheers" once. Could someone mail
them to me? I'll post the result to the net!

Eternally in your debt, already...

A vocal version of "Bonanza" appears on the B-side of Lorne Greene's (who
else?) 1964 hit, "Ringo". Can somebody search through their attic for this
one and help Moriarty out?

I have heard the Bonanza theme with lyrics as sung by Lorne Greene on the
Dr. Demento radio show. Unfortunately I don't have a copy. Now the hard part
will be finding the recording.

Quite a few years ago the cast from Bonanza made an album called BONANZA. The
format of the record was a surprise birthday for Ben Cartright. I have this
album but am having a problem locating it. I will give it my best and post
the result.

You're right. Ringo is on the other side.

Here they are:

We tasted a luck 'til we finally struck. Bonanza!
With a gun and a rope and a hat full of hope,
   we planted our family tree.

We got a hold of a pot full of gold. Bonanza!
With a horse and a sadle and a ring full of cattle,
how rich can a fellow be.

On this land we put our brand, Cartwright is the name.
Fortune smiled the day we filed the Ponderosa claim.

Here in the west we're living in the best. Bonanza!
If anyone fights anyone of us,
he's got to fight with me.

(music and two opera 'Bonanza's')

Hos an' Joe and Adam no, every rock and pine.
No one works, fights, or eats like the boys of mine.

Here we stand in the middle of the grand. Bonanza!
With a gun and a rope and a hat full of hope,
   we planted our family tree.

We got a hold of a pot full of gold. Bonanza!
With a house full of friends where the rainbow ends,
how rich can a fellow be?

On this land we put our brand, Cartwright is the name.
Fortune smiled the day we filed the Ponderosa claim.

Here in the west we're living in the best. Bonanza!
Where the friendliest fight and this lumberless land
that ever set foot in a promised land and we're
   happier than them all.

That's why we call it Bonanza! Bonanza! Bonanza!
           Bonanza(really emphatic)!

There they are.

now I hope someone can help me. I need the words to
the theme song of The Partridge Family tv show. Don't confuse
this with The Brady Bunch("Here's a story of a lonely lady...").

                              Thanks.

'The earth is scheduled to self destruct in five minutes to make
 way for a hyperspace bypass.'

Hmm. Those may well be the lyrics from the record, but apparently the
first broadcast episode of the series had a different verse or two, which
were subsequently sung (briefly) by Lorne Green (and others?) on the most
recent Emmy show. They went something like:

We got a right to pick a little fight Bonanza!
If anyone fights any one of us,
he's got a fight with me!

We're not a one to saddle up and run Bonanza!
Any one of us who starts a little fuss
knows he can count on me!

One for four, four for one, this we guarantee!

The hills and the wills of the men who build Bonanza!
Prove that it's true that maybe you can build
    a Bonanza too!

There may be yet more verses... is there any way we can find out for sure?
