> It seems that a lot of people thought/think that Jack Palance was > in Have Gun Will Travel, but that even more people are sure it was > really Richard Boone. I'm really confused, as I agree with Richard > Boone, but still seem to remember some old western (B&W) series with > Jack Palance. Is it possible Palance had some recurring role (maybe > as a bad guy) in some old western series? Or, did he take over > from Boone on Have Gun Will Travel for a year? > > (Or, are a lot of people having some kind of mass hallucination??) To put all this disinformation about Jack Palance and what tv show he appeared in finally to rest I consulted the "Encyclopedia Britannica of Television" (so says TV Guide), namely THE COMPLETE DIRECTORY TO PRIME TIME NETWORK TV SHOWS, 1946-PRESENT by Tim Brooks and Earle Marsh. Jack Palance appeared in two tv series: The Greatest Show on Earth, 1963-64 (Circus Drama) Bronk, 1975-76 (Detective Drama) In addition he made a number of appearances in various anthology series during the 1950's, such as Motorola TV Theatre (1953-54), Playhouse 90 (he won an Emmy in 1956 for best single performance by an actor for "Requiem for a Heavyweight"), The Web ("Last Chance", 1953). Richard Boone played Paladin in "Have Gun, Will Travel" for its entire six year run (1957-63). The Palance/Boone confusion is, no doubt, due to their similar craggy features. If you don't look too closely they are interchangable. Although he appeared in films prior to Shane (1953), it was his performance as the hired gunslinger who intimidates the homesteaders and faces Shane in the final showdown which made his reputation as a memorable character actor. Shane was turned into a short-lived tv series in 1966 starring David Carradine. Palance did NOT appear in this series.
