Ok, this time in the beginning of the show they sit and talk right to the audience! With Addison saying, "What do I know, I'm just a TV character." I think I liked the old meta-comments better. When they are not acknowledged as being meta. Posted once in a Blue Moon... ------- Michael S. In the opening lines, not only does David make a META-meta comment when he recognizes himself as a character, but he executes a meta-action when he instructs the crew to turn off tthe lights! This is getting complicated . . . //"Do bees be? Do bears bear?"// Alvin T. Lee

I didn't mean it wasn't weird, but it was too obvious to be meta. Meta, as I see it, has to be clever and you have to be paying attention to catch it. It is subtle. It is *not* turning to the camera and saying, "Hi, I'm a tv character." bleh! That's our opinion. What's yours? We'd like to know... ------- Michael S. MW9 at my school seems to have this requirement for subtlety in meta-comments. HOWEVER, I don't remember this being a requirement at all . . . if so, then great comments like "We have to. There's another show in 20 minutes." (the spirit of the Christmas show comment, rather than the letter) would certainly have to be discounted. Yeah, I know I'm being picky too . . . Alvin T. If you can't see the difference between that comment and "Hi there, I'm a tv character" well you are in need of psychiatric help. :-) It's not sublety, but rather a sense of 'slipping in' the comment rather than throwing it in my face. ------- Michael S.
