Here's a question related to the discussion on meta-comments. A popular technique often used to humorous effect in cartoons is to have one of the characters look directly at the reader, usually with a facial expression that shows amusement, shock, or boredom. The character doesn't have to say anything. Is there a term for this technique? Phil
