Fortunately, we had the full resources of the chess club at our disposal, so keeping track of promoted pieces was usually no problem. One board could very quickly have five or six queens on it. Our time constraint was five minutes per board. One of our more effective matchups featured a speed player who tended to play "straight" chess, and a bughouse expert who understood the effects of undeveloped acquired pieces in an open king position. Thus, the speed player would act as a supply guy to the bughouse expert, usually providing a crushing victory. As to other variants, how many Guillotine players are out there? Guillotine is a variant of five minute chess, in which the winner of each game loses a minute. The winner of the match is the first player to get to zero. After a few game wins, the time factor begins to equalize. The Organ Keyboard of Jerryl Payne {ihnp4,esquire,harpo}!inmet!jlp
