Editor-People's home computer, STANFORD-SCORE, will be down from Dec. 18,
possibly until Jan. 3. The SCORE machine is being relocated at Stanford,
and replaced with a brand-new 2060. Until the new SCORE is back on the
air, please hold off your submissions to Editor-People.
Incidentally, Editor-People has fallen into inactivity recently. I hope that
the new year will bring greater interest and activity; after Jan. 3, please
don't hesitate to send your comments/opinions/research results on text
editing! I would be particularly interested in seeing:
o Comparisons of various existing editors, and suggestions for tools
or techniques to be used in objective comparisons.
o Reports of new editors available or under development.
o Research in human factors that has direct bearing on editor
(particularly command set/user interface) design
o Research in systems programming or algorithms that has bearing
on the implementation of editors. For example, ideas on distributed
computing or display/window management.
o Reports on the interaction between editors and hardware. To what
extent are such things as bitmapped displays, mice, or color
displays useful in editors?
I hope to hear from you in January.
