My believe is that if two things are equal (in function ...) the more simple one is better. Thus, I think that for the price of a Technic SL-7 (it costs over $400 in Canada) I rather buy a similar price but more simple (in design) turntable like Rega Planar II (about Cdn $450) if you are looking for good sound. However, if you are looking at asthetic, automation .... etc or space is a limiting factor, SL-5 should be a better choice. The differences between SL-7 and SL-5 are (1) the cartridge and (2) SL-5 doesn'thave a record clamp. P. Yeung
