[net.audio] Why high end?

I see lots of stuff on "high end" audio equipment, with the Foobar Labs
Macro-diddley AMP having .0000000000000001 % distortion at 10kwatts/chan
and so on.  What I want to know is, why should I buy anything better than my ears?
Why should I pay for what I can't hear?

(Quick, fred, get me the asbestos terminal cover...)
