In response to the request for info on audio equipment, here is a review of my most recent (and certainly most rewarding) audio purchase. NAD 3140 Integrated Amplifier * 40 watts/channel (continuous into 8 ohms) * power bandwidth 10 - 70,000 Hz * rated THD 0.02%, ihf IM 0.02%, SMPTE IM 0.02% (if you care about such) * slew rate 30 volts/microsecond * 3 dB dynamic headroom * Price: $398.00 list, I paid $348.00 for mine. Other Features * Speaker lead compensation that attempts to correct for abnormally long speaker wiring * Soft clipping that makes clipping less sonically painful * LED power meter on the front panel * Pre-amp output + power amp input + bridging connections on the rear panel * Switch selectable phono capacitance compensation. * Separate input and recording controls so you can record silently from disk and listen to something else at the same time. * Subsonic filter * lots more I don't remember... (for more info, and to clear up or correct any of the above, see the review in the March 1981 Stereo Review. For comments on the NAD line, and their technical approach to amplifier design, see Audio Critic - I don't recall which issue, but there are only 3 or 4.) I have been very happy with the 3140. It has a clear, clean sound and is quite durable. The folks that sold it to me were enthusiastic about the quality of NAD equipment and low rate of problems/malfunctions. The 40 watts rating is extremely conservative, it can pump out 70 with no strain. I couldn't find a more capable, compact and well reviewed amp for $350.00 anywhere. I heartily recommend it to anyone looking for a medium-price integrated amp. David Bryant cbosg!djb
