[net.audio] Integrated Amplifier Review--Nikko NA700

Micro review--Excellent

The Nikko NA700 is a 55w/channel integrated amplifier.
According to the my lab tests, it has about .01% IM and THD
at both 1 watt and 50 watts (into 8 ohms, 20 o leading at
20kHz. 10-25kHz, with a bandwidth of about 5-60k). It has
all the usual gimics and useful devices like a subsonic filter,
(switchable) high filter(also switchable), two tape decks with dubbing,
and a switchable phono section for MM or MC(both impedence and gain
switched)).
The phono section is clean (as far as I can see (<.01% distortion))
with the distortion masked by the noise level about 80dB below 3mv at
the phono input. (MM, I did not test MC.)

The switching system, controls and meters are nicely thought out and
arranged. We (Collectively) have about 9 unit-years on 6 units, and
have had no trouble yet. In a critical listening setup, they sound as
good as the Technics "wire with gain" series, and much better than an
old Mac system.

They seem to be the best integrated amplifier deal that I have found, with
a usual cost of about $200-$220 discounted.
I heartily reccommend them for anything but the most critical of audiophilic
listeners.
