I am in need of replacing nearly my whole system, but I haven't been reading all the magazines and hanging out with audiophiles much in the last 5 or 6 years, so I am trying to gather information. I am looking for a receiver (AM not necessary), speakers, turntable, and cassette deck, and I am thinking of about $1000 (I'm not obligated to spend that much, (!) but I need good reason to spend more). I will probably remain an apartment dweller for many years to come, and I listen to a variety of types of music usually classified as "rock" (i.e. not much classical or jazz or country etc.). If you have good ideas pertinent to such a selection, I would appreciate hearing them. (Will I be swamped?) Of course, if I get enough responses I will summarize.
