The first time I used the new XL-IIS, I noticed it to be superior to the XL-II. I like it a lot. Dean Jagels mhtsa!dpj

I do not see any great benefit by using the XLS type tapes from Maxell over the plain XL tapes.... Yes its true that they have a different bias which might lead people to believe they have more high end. But when I bias my deck for either of the two tapes, the end result sounds the same. (I have a deck with an adjustable bias) I *can* see the benefit if someone does not have a deck with an easily adjustable bias control. Because of the different bias it would give more high end. My Pioneer ct-f900 has adjustable bias, so I guess I have to disagree. I use both UDXL-II and UDXL-IIS and I can really hear the difference. Both tapes are very good, but the UDXL-IIS has a better high end. I really think that people should buy one of each and test them with their own equipment. (In fact, I think that it's true that there is a nice little test package available that has one of each kind of cassette included.) I think the important thing here is to take other people's advice for what it's worth (this includes my own) and use whatever you think sounds good. Craig
