I recently picked up a Sansui DR-35 direct drive turntable at a wharehouse sale for $38. Not a great turntable, but I could'nt turn it down at that price. Unfortunately the cartridge that came with it is not really very good. The manual says it tracks best at 2.5 grams. this seems a little heavy to me so I've been looking at new ones lately. I'm just keeping this in the basement and will probably only play it 6 or 8 hrs a week. The cartridge I have now is a Sansui SC-50. My question is - what is a good replacement cartridge that won't cost an arm and a leg for the amount I will be playing it. I've been looking at lower end Stanton (6601, etc.) and the new Shure (M192, M195, etc.). Has anyone got any suggestions? I really dont' want to sink anymore than $50 in it. I bought a Shure M97 HE a year ago at Illinois Audio and am wondering if for $48, if it is'nt the best bet. Tim Connolly BTL-Indpls. inuxc!tconn
