I would like to make a general suggestion. I know some recent articles have become too technical for me, and I suspect this is also true for others. Can we get off the subject of re:re:re:re:re:re:re:dynamic range, and move on to other less confusing issues? --- Alain

...warning-flame follows...
The reason a lot of these technically oriented articles have been appearing
on the net is apparently because rabbit!jj and others get inundated by
poorly informed statements and reply to the net to clear up the matter for
EVERYBODY. I feel that this is a useful service, the abusive language
nonwithstanding.
net.audio is net.audio and not net.music or net.records
exactly so that technical discussions about audio can have a proper forum.
Eliminating technical discussions from net.audio would render it little more
than a product review column, which, if you read the various slick rag
columns on that subject, tends to be boring, boring, boring.
One of the big problems with the audio industry is rampant technical
quackery which unfortunately is kept alive by consumers with insufficient
desire to be critical or with inadequate information on which to base
their judgement.
Discussion of technical subjects on the net does much to offload the
excessive audio cowboy baggage that this hobby seems to carry.
Incidentally, in the interest of increasing the consciousness of audiophilia
everywhere, why don't those posters who are mailing their comments to
rabbit!jj post them to the net and give everybody a chance to comment or
at least figure out what rabbit!jj is commenting on? The topics appear
most interesting!

#R:yale-com:-33000:pur-ee:12000008:000:622 pur-ee!davy Nov 21 00:38:00 1982 Warning.....more flaming...... Sure, net.audio is for technical discussions. But couldn't we keep it down to a somewhat easier level? I don't understand all this Decibel-Whojamawhatsis-Wave Theory stuff, simply because it's TOO technical for me. I don't mind reading technical stuff, but it helps if I can under- stand what the hell the other guy is saying. If you're going to submit something technical, try to explain things well enough that people who aren't quite as well-versed in the subject can still understand. I think that's what was Alain was really trying to say. --Dave Curry pur-ee!davy
