I have the opportunity to buy a pair of Bose 301 speakers for $75 (cabinets slightly marred, but sound OK -- or so I'm told). I haven't gone speaker listening for a long time, since I haven't had bucks, but this seems to be too good to pass up. I'm thinking of using them for dorm/small apartment listening, and was wondering if anyone could think of good reasons for me NOT to pick them up. (examples -- crummy sound, power hog, etc.) PLEASE don't followup. Just use that wonderful r- command. Thanks, Chris Kent, Purdue CS Dept.

They are, however, essentially an extended midrange type cabinet. You may wish to add some high quality tweeters to suppliment their high end response and a center channel sub-woofer for the low end. There are lots of speakers I would prefer over the 301's but in a small room and for the price you can't do too bad. Dave Burris ihlpb!burris BTL - Naperville
