I am looking for information on multi-track recording. I am interested in finding out about, and/or buying a reel-to-reel or cassette that has the capability of recording a track, playing the track back while recording on another track. This makes it possible to 'put down' several tracks, one at a time and end up with a complete set of different vocals and/or instuments. I am told that this capability is called simul-sync which is not to be confused with sound-on-sound. I was told that sound-on-sound gives the ability to record while playing, but that there will be a delay created by the distance between record and play heads, (a considerable time delay). Also, there is something called sound-with-sound that I have yet to find out what is is about. I have heard about expensive AKIA or maybe TEAC reel-to-reel setups that give these features, and a fairly new cassette system with a 4 track mixer but I dont know enough to make any kind of decisions about any of them. I would also be interested in used equipment, (much better chance of fitting my budget). Presenty I own a PEAVEY 12 channel stereo mixer that I used for stage work with my old band and maybe this could be used with any recorder I might buy, (????). I have very limited knowledge in this area but would like to find out more, maybe from someone who has experience with or has used such equipment. Well I will apreciate any releated responces via mail that may in any way further my knowledge and/or help me to find or purchase a appropriate system. Thanks in advance...
