In response to the rather acidic posting (rabbit.159) claiming that the
major cause of tape head magnetization is the power switch, I must raise
several objections:
1. I do know what I'm talking about. Probably as much as you know what
you're talking about. I am an EE major, and have done very well
in all of my physics, though I can't remember words like coercitivity.
2. The only solution to your power switch magnetization problem is
to demagnetize your tape heads every time you turn the deck on or
off. Thus, the deck must be left on forever, since you can't turn
it off after demagnetizing it, without having to do it again
ad infinitum.
3. This power switch magnetization would be extremely model specific.
Can you give me a list of which ones do this and which ones don't?
