I've got a decent tuner, but an aging, underpowered 10-year-old amp. I'd like to get an amp in the $150 - 200 range. But it seems like in this day and age, separate amps and tuners are found only among the pricey components. Some time ago, I recall reading on the net that people liked a brand called NAD. I've never seen that at stereo stores. One lead I have -- DAK has a Kenwood KA80 integrated amp w/ 48 watts RMS into 8 ohms for $179. Any comments on the above Kenwood? Leads on NAD? Other suggestions? Carl Blesch Bell Labs - Naperville, Ill. IH 2A-159, (312) 979-3360 ihuxm!prgclb

I'm a bit new to the net, so I didnt see what came before concerning NAD. But I've spent some time shopping for amps and the like, and was VERY impressed with NAD's equipment. I give it an extra vote over anything else in a similar price range on the market. Also, NAD's power ratings are VERY conservative. They are comprable in real music power to amps with double their ratings, and also comprable in sound quality. Here in Washington DC, a year ago NAD was available only from Int'l Audio, a small shop. One year later its now sold by the Myer-Emco chain and AudioCrafters, and other shops. In other words, its availability is growing in leaps and bounds. Keep looking. ...duke!mcnc!rlgvax!tom (tom beres)
