A lot has been said recently about equalizers, both here and in magazines, etc. While I am not about to run out and buy one immediately, it may be time to re-evalute where an equalizer stands on my purchasing list. I have a few questions, though. They all seem to center around one or two points: 1) What effect will a moderately priced unit by a reputable company have on the overall S/N and dynamic range of a good system? 2) What effects will the filters have on group delay and the like? Many manufacturers have ads which seem to suggest that dispersive effects (group delay) are responsible for OTHER kinds of distortion like TIM and for a variety of subtle listening colorations. What is the REAL story? Once again, will someone explain just what kind of effects thin speaker wire has? It's been a while since I took my control systems courses and the fragments of the discussion that took place went by me so fast that I missed the big picture, especially the parts relating to amplifier design. And, for that matter, why can slew--rate measurements destroy the output stage of an amp? (Boy, I have a lot of questios today!) Mark Terribile hou5e!mat (unwillingly dubbed) Duke of DeNet
