[net.audio] Poor Record Quality Again

wjm (04/20/83)

Another flame at CBS and their lack of QC - this time on their digital
"Mastersound" line - I just bought a copy of Bach's "Goldberg Variations" by
Glenn Gould and found that the record was warped - Why? because someone at CBS
put the shrink wrap on too tight and warped the package. Fortunately, I think
a little TLC by yours truly will dewarp it - and my turntable/cartridge can
track almost anything, including this one in its present condition.
If Philips can produce high quality records, why can't the US companies.
At the same time, I also bought 3 Telarc recordings to add to my collections.
The sound and pressing quality was up to Telarc standards. I much prefer to
pay $16 (the cheapest price I can get Telarc disks for in the NYC area - at
J & R Sound on Park Row) for them than $10 for the so-called audiophile products
from CBS and Capitol (Angel).
End of Flame
