i always thot the dust cover should be kept *down* while playing. what do you think its *for* anyway? also, it being kept down should help to mitigate feedback from the air, if it is a decent dust cover (or so i thot; i am not an audiophile)

It'll keep 20 to 30 minutes worth of dust from getting on your records. Just don't rub the top of the dust cover while the record is playing.
