I agree that in theory, at least, a linear tracking tonearm has considerably less distortion than a radial arm. However, with the exception of the Souther, all of them have (as far as I'm concerned) a fatal flaw... They require a servo mechanism to drive them in toward the center of the record. Since I'm an EE rather than an ME, I tend to distrust complicated mechanical mechanisms (and have heard many horror stories about Rabco turntables spending more time in the shop than out of it), and will stick to a good convential arm. I'm considering a replacement for my Denon, and am thinking of a Linn Sondek with a Black Widow, SME, or Linn arm? Any comments?? Bill Mitchell (whuxk!wjm)
