An article stated that the author was very happy with the performance of some Hungarian vacuum tubes in his audio equipment and asked for recommendations of other brands of tubes to try. When I was buying Audio Research equipment, the standard tube brand was Amperex; there seemed no question that these tubes provided better sound than, say, RCA. However, a few years later I read in an audiophile magazine that some people were using Telefunken tubes in ARC equipment; their claim was that the Telefunkens provided a cleaner, drier sound than the Amperexes, which had slightly more "warmth." I would suggest comparing these brands with the Hungarian tubes.
