I heard my first CD player today at Sam Goody in the Livingston Mall in NJ. I was quite happy with the sound until it all of a sudden started going ka-chunk ka-chunk ka-chunk. I asked the sales hack what was wrong and he mumbled something about a bad spot on the disk. Oh, well - so much for flawless reproduction. The unit in question is a Denon and sells for $1000. I suppose it is possible that it has been mistreated, etc. but I will surely do more testing before I consider plunking down the cash... Steve Falco BTL Whippany
