Some scuttlebutt from the Pioneer Suite at the June CES has it that some extra "tracks" are now being recorded on Laserdiscs in anticipation of the forthcoming combination CD-LV player that has been mentioned by Pioneer execs. Does anyone have further information of any sort about this?? Some interesting tidbits: 1. Recent discs (such as 2001) have not used CX encoding, even tho such processing is free. 2. The surfaces of some new LV's LOOK different. 3. The 4.2 mHz multiburst response is down a bit from what it used to be; has a guard band been added? 4. There is ample precedent for such a development. For example, Close Encounters and Black Stallion are CX encoded even tho no mention was made at the time, and the VP-1000 has provisions to play 8 inch LV's which have yet to hit the market. -- Chuck Forsberg Computer Development Inc Portland OR cdi!caf (503)-646-1599
