According to an article in the 7/7/83 Red Bank Register The FCC, w/o fanfare, and pe'rhaps too late [ ... ] authorized FM radio stations yesterday to broadcast in four-channel, quadrophonic sound. ... with a simple one-page order, the FCC announced: ``The quadrophonic FM broadcasting systems described in the quad notice, and any other compatible quadrophonic transmission system, may now be used by FM broadcasters.'' Well, it almost certainly is too late. But, for my curiousity, how did this FM system work? Would it be incompatible with the FM subcarrier usage now planned for radio pagers and the like? And, BTW, do the pagers interfere with ``high-quality'' FM broadcasting, especially as done by the better classical music stations? Mark Terribile hou5e!mat Duke of deNet
