It turned out to be HARD water spots on the albums that caused
them to sound lousy after the flood.  Those little white and
orange spots can be really nasty to clean off.  We finally settled
on a good washing in warm water and mild detergent followed by
a treatment with the Scotch Record Care kit.  (The Scotch system
has a pad on a support that attaches to the center spindle of the 
t-table.  Above the support is a bottle containing an alcohol
based solution.  This solution is dispensed to the pad depending
on downward pressure.  The whole thing is quite nice.)
