If you are going to look into Harmon Kardon equipment beware:
A year ago Christmas, I purchased a 300xm for the exact reasons that
the previous gentleman mentioned (nice frequency response, compatible
with UDXL2's, a few handy toys to play with on it: Music search, Record
calibration(?), bias fine tuning, etc). But last Thanksgiving I took it
in to be fixed (the music search was searching without silencing) and
after being run around from service dept to service dept and finally
directly to HK in New York. The bottom line? SEVEN MONTHS in the shop. I
was sick about it but my hands were tied. And to top it off, it came
back with the front slightly scarred and the HX (headroom extension)
calibration screwed up. I've given up on HK as far as the service goes!
I just want to stop piddling around and get a real deck: Maybe a Nakamichi
or Revox. I don't know, however, how the recordings from these decks would
perform on the Alpine.
