AGGHH! Did the golden ears in the Gramaphone Magazine ``Hear-off'' really hear differences or just prejudices? If the test was not conducted ``double-blind'', than the results don't mean a blinking thing! HOW was the test conducted? By the way, filter phase shift in a CD shouldn't hurt things if it's linear with frequency (i.e., constant time delay) It's not clear whether the phase shifts reported in tests are the result of a linear phase filter characteristic or not. Simply publishing the results of a single pair of frequencies isn't sufficient. The entire characteristic should be determined. Incidentally, how do Denon and all those other companies play back all their digital recordings? Do they have the same problems as us poor consumers, or do they use some superior method of processing? I would guess that there is not a lot of difference between the Denon or Soundstream digital tapes and CD playback systems. If so, why haven't we heard tremendous complaints from the recording side of the music industry? Just random thoughts ( with constant time delay, of course...)
