[net.audio] Where to get CDs

wjm@whuxk.UUCP (08/22/83)

Last Saturday, I was browsing through several record/audio shops etc. in NYC
and found several that have CD's for sale (although they didn't necessarily
have the prices posted). Harvey's on W 45th St. has a number of titles,
including most Telarcs that have been released on CD so far. I also saw
good selections of CD's in several of the other shops on 45th St.
Then, of course, there's Tower Records
(as noted earlier)
So far, I haven't seen any CD's at J&R on Park Row (which frankly surprises
me, given their selection of LP's) but that's probably from either a) not
looking in the right place (easy to do given J&R's 3 stores - classiscal/jazz,
popular, and video - or b) just a matter of time (or they sell out as soon
as they come in). J&R has the lowest prices on LP's that I know of (and no
"sale" games where selected labels are on sale from time to time - the prices
are consistently low, so I suspect that price policy will carry over to CD's.
Another likely source of CD's is King Karol (Times Square among other locations
) given their large LP selection.
                                                Bill Mitchell
                                                Bell Labs, Whippany, NJ
                                                (whuxk!wjm)
ps. If you're not in the NYC area, J&R has a large mail order department, with
an 800 number to call to order - they take Visa and MasterCard on $25+ orders
and Amex on $50+ orders - they also take checks but you have to wait for the
check to clear before they ship the goods. (whuxk!wjm)

I found a decent selection at Sam Goody's at Woodbridge Mall, and I was
told that by today (Monday), they'd have a much bigger selection.
Their selection was heavily biased towards classical (12:1 ratio, I'd
estimate), though. They, too, take Amex, VISA, and Mastercard. Happy
hunting!
