[net.audio] Cartridges-tracking,...

jj@rabbit.UUCP (09/26/83)

A worn stylus tracks as good as a new one. BALONEY. I dunno who told
you THAT, but don't go back.

"Good" cartridges don't track as well. By defination, if a cartridge
can't track something, it's BAD. Enough said?

Are records being damaged if you are hearing mistracking? Absolutely
yes. In fact, the point at whick record damage starts to increase
greatly is before mistracking becomes evident.

As an aside (third time I've said that today), I don't think the
Shure V15 V or M97Ed <If it's still around> are bad cartridges at
all. Some "audiophiles" don't like them because they don't
cost enough.

Regardless of what kind of cartridge you get, I suggest that you
get it soon!
