Present CD test discs have an opaque wedge on them to allow testing of a CD player's error correction circuitry. This wedge runs from 0 to 900 microns in width. The best players on the market can track through this wedge without mistracking (skipping or creating a drop-out). Since I don't use microns for everyday calculations, I made a quick conversion from microns to inches to determine just how good the error correction circuit on a top-notch CD player is. Since 2.54cm=1in and 1 meter = 1,000,000 microns and 100 cm = 1m a CD player can correct over: 900microns x (1m/1,000,000 microns) x (100cm/1m) x (1 in /2.54 cm) = 1/28 of an inch ------------------- So much for 1/8" strips of tape on the disc!!!
